HOW TO APPLY

  1. Think about what you are doing or what you would want to do to change the world.  The United Nations created the Millennium Development Goals as a guide for making the world a better place (find out more here). What would you do to help with issues like the ones mentioned in the Millennium Development Goals?
     
  2. Produce your video. Remember that it needs to be under 5 minutes!
     
  3. Register for an account to receive username/password information.
     
  4. Login with username/password information provided.
     
  5. Upload it.
     
  6. Complete your submission before March 31, 2011.

Official Contest Rules

By participating in this Contest, all contestants and their parents or guardians acknowledge and agree to be bound by the terms of the Contest set out in the above Guidelines and herein. The rules of this Contest may change if situations beyond Kaleidoscope’s control occur between now and the conclusion of this Contest. Any changes to these rules will be posted on the Kaleidoscope website.

Criteria

  • Open to Canadian citizens or landed immigrants, 18 years of age and under at the time of video submission.
  • Obtain consent to participate in the contest from their parent or guardian.
  • Submissions must be less than five minutes in length, under 100 MB, and preferably provided in .MOV or .MPG format.
  • Only your original content! Videos must not include commercial copyrighted music or images. Contestants are responsible for ensuring that soundtracks and images are not copyrighted material.
  • You may submit more than one video, but each video requires a separate submission form.

Judging

All submissions will be judged by the following criteria:

  • Originality and Creativity
  • Level of understanding of the global issue
  • Personal growth and learning

Prizes

Submissions will be judged regionally to select one finalist from each age group from each province and the Atlantic region. Winners will receive a video camera or equivalent cash prize up to $500 at a public event organized by each Council. A selection of winners will be invited to Ottawa to attend our global issues workshop and a National Gala Ceremony.

Early Bird Prize: All submissions before February 1, 2011 will be entered in a draw to win an iPod Touch or equivalent cash prize.

Copyright and Rights Granted

All video submissions become the property of Kaleidoscope organizers, and none shall be returned. Contestants grant Kaleidoscope an irrevocable, non-exclusive, worldwide license to use video submissions, without compensation, including the stills, concepts, etc., associated with the Contest entry on its website and as part of any promotional efforts, and the right to use the contestants’ name, photograph, likeness, voice, address (city and province) and testimonials, in printed, broadcast media or new media, worldwide, in perpetuity, in any manner they deem appropriate in connection with promoting the video submission itself or this Contest.

Contestants are liable for any copyright infringements caused by their videos, and are responsible for securing permission from all talent included in their video.

Limitation of Liability and Releases

By participating in the Contest, the Contestant releases Kaleidoscope from any and all claims, damages or liabilities arising from or relating to such Contestant participation in the Contest including any damage they might incur in accepting and using prizes. Contestants release Kaleidoscope organizers from any and all responsibility for loss, late entries, wrong addresses, printing errors or any other errors, or resulting from any user’s participation in or attempt to participate in the Contest or ability or inability to upload or download any information in connection with participating in the Kaleidoscope Contest, or for technical problems or technical malfunction arising in connection with any of the following occurrences which may affect the operation of the Contest.

In the event that for any reason beyond Kaleidoscope organizers’ control a prize may not be awarded as described, Kaleidoscope may award a substitute prize. In such a case, contest finalists renounce any legal actions or appeals against the organizers. By accepting a prize in the Contest, finalists agree that the Sponsor and Contest Parties shall not be liable for any loss or injury resulting from participation in the Contest, acceptance or use of any prize, or any travel related thereto.
